The Google Wave – Is It Hello or GoodBye? The Video of Google Wave Launch at Google I/O

Google Wave Developer Preview presentation at the Day 2 Keynote of Google I/O. Here is the video from Google’s spectacular new product launch – Google Wave.

There were many “Angles” to cover from Google I/O and this new product Wave. Look for those over the next few weeks. Meanwhile there is great coverage that is well ‘clustered’ on Techmeme.

Here is my Angle on the Google I/O Event and Wave: I spent the full two days deep among the developers. What an event it was. I was impressed and enjoyed it thoroughly . It felt like an Apple event version of an Open Source party and revolution.

Google I/O had a great vibe. Google is doing a great job in galvanizing the developer community. Specifically, developers who have spent a generation building open source from a free community approach to what it is today – the basis of all new innovation that has scale. More importantly, the open source movement, with early pioneers leading the way, are shepherding in a new generation of developers.

Except this time open source is at “full scale” and providing deeper benefits for mainstream developers. There is no end in sight for where it will take us. I love Google’s strategy here – a brilliant strategic move for them on many fronts (look for those Angles later here on SiliconAngle – there are many story lines to talk about from loose consumer apps to hardened unified communications systems).

Competitive strategy aside, the biggest questions among everyone at Google I/O and online (including myself) are “Can Google make developers money” ;”Can Google really scale this kind of commercial ecosystem? ; Is Google and Wave structured like an academic project”?.

Google has no track record in making developers money. Google has a traction on product innovation and leveraging their scale. Will this translate into an ecosystem and business for developers?. In this recession making money is paramount.

SiliconAngle will be covering this with great interest since we are covering startups and developing with App Engine among other Google tools.

Enjoy the video – it was an downright an amazing demo. Lars and his team did a great job. I like this team and the vision. My Angle for Google: please get the developer ecosystem equation right and create a vibrant “profitable” market for new innovation.

Lets hope this Wave is a Hello not a Goodbye.
