Is Amazon Winning the Tax War with the States?
The initiative dubbed the “Amazon Tax” in many states around the US is meeting with defeat, much to the delight of affiliate marketers everywhere. Andy Beal reports today at Marketing Pilgrim about Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Lingle’s vetoes of the taxes that would be levied on those who choose to sell others products through affiliate programs:
CA’s Arnold Schwarzenegger stated:
"After passing the largest tax increase in California history, it makes absolutely no sense to go back to the taxpayers to solve the current shortfall – that’s why yesterday I vetoed the majority vote tax increase passed by the legislature."
Meanwhile HI’s Governor Linda Lingle says:
“I am vetoing this bill immediately to help ensure Hawai‘i is not economically hurt by legislation that was not well thought-out and would have negative consequences for non-profits such as the University of Hawai‘i bookstore, and businesses throughout our State”
The tax bill still hasn’t met with defeat or veto in North Carolina or Rhode Island, so the cutoff for Amazon and now Blue Nile affiliates remains in effect.
