John has a breaking story from the Intel Developer’s Conference (#IDF09)

Intel Developer App Story
Intel just announced two APIs:
1) Writing applications to run great on specific set of devices.
2) Interfaces between devices and backend chip development.

Intel is in the run time business not the API business. Partner outreach to professionals. Looking at working with existing developer networks (e.g. AIR developers). AIR developer are what they call first class citizens.

I love the App Store Trend; Now Intel is building a catalog of applications

Goal is to promote apps in this app story and will look for partners to take apps out and use them.

It’s really a developer program not primarily an app store. They want the community to drive the innovation. The community provides new sets of economics. App store is just a metaphor.

This is a real business opportunity for Intel: 70/30 split on the revenue model: Developer gets 70% but Intel is very flexible.
