Fusion-io Demos Flash-Based Memory Tier, ioMemory, at VMworld 2010
Fuion-io had an impressive demonstration at VMworld 2010 this year, running more than 500 virtual desktops on a single VMware vSphere server. The new, flash-based memory tier is called ioMemory, and it’s bringing new standards to the world of virtualization performance in desktop and server environments.
The ioMemory technology was also demoed across a fully redundant, shareable, 10GbE iSCSI network, showcasing what customers can expect from Fusion-io moving forward. I stopped by the booth before the conference started, and learned that the server was streaming tens of thousands of DVD-quality movies, among other media, as well.
The ioMemory technology streamlines transactional data input/output, increasing capex and lowering consolidation rates. “Fusion-io is changing the way customers think about data-center architecture, driving further efficiency, consolidation and scalability into virtual platforms,” said Neil Carson, CTO of Fusion-io. “Fusion’s ability to efficiently handle the highly random access patterns prevalent in virtualized workloads, aids customers in reducing the cost and complexity of adding multiple virtual machines.”
Of course, Fuiosn-io is one of the many virtualization services that is finding innovative ways to push its competitive edge. We got a chance to speak with Fusion-io CEO David Flynn when he by TheCUBE during our live coverage of VMworld 2010. Watch all the recaps here. #memeconnect #fio
