HP Brings the Android Tablet and Apps to the Printer
Hewlett-Packard is the computer manufacturer with at least a dozen products in every gadget-related store. With the launch of the latest generation of its TouchSmart desktop computers and newly introduced Apps Center, it seems that this mega-corporation is looking to add a few more of its products to that list, while rocketing one of its newest innovations straight into mainstream tech:
“Hewlett-Packard is launching a new version of its TouchSmart desktop computers today [September 20] with new software that makes computing more intuitive. The company is also unveiling its new HP TouchSmart Apps Center to access free and subscription-based applications that take advantage of the touchscreen interface.”
HP’s latest is a beautifully-designed touchscreen PC, with a lot of smooth and useful features, most notably its unique interface. This Android-powered tablet, together with the TouchSmart App Center, is beginning to make this HP trend appear more and more like a new breed of iPhone variations on steroids.
Apps, as they were publicized by the competition, are no longer just for Smartphones. HP’s extensive use and reinvention of this concept is literally jam-packed. Despite the fact that the Apps Center currently offers only a rather limited number of these applications, this venture and others like it are hoping to dive head first into the mainstream, faster than you can say “dragable application,” reaching and empowering more and more consumer devices.
Cutting serious deals with moguls such as Yahoo, American Airlines and ESPN regarding the implementation of the TouchSmart 9100 computers within their operations, HP has made already the first move in this direction. It’s opened up a new channel of distribution for business apps in particular, offering a targeted demographic and another point of access for marketing around consumer services.
