Skyfire Hires Two Across Hybrid Lines of Flash and Movie Delivery

Skyfire, the company that wowed us with the smartphone browser that ran videos better than anyone else, has gone on a hiring spree. According to a TechCrunch exclusive, they’ve snapped up Vinay Ramani from Adobe’s Flash team and they’ve also hired John Metzger, now ex-senior director of engineering for Akamai.image

From Adobe comes Vinay Ramani, who was Group Product Manager for Flash from 2006 until earlier this year. He’ll be joining Skyfire as an advisor, while also serving as Sr. Director of Products at communications software company, Ecrio. Busy guy!

Previously Akamai’s Senior Director of Engineering, John Metzger will now act as Skyfire’s Vice President of Engineering. Metzger was previously part of the team that built up Akamai’s multimedia acceleration and scalability solutions.

Skyfire’s claim to fame has been their killer ability to drive disparate multimedia types for smartphones. As seen in the extreme popularity of their Android release: the browser they built is flash-friendly and uses the cloud to do most of its heavy lifting, lowering CPU cycles for video to a bare minimum. This means that Skyfire can deliver a stunning multimedia experience to a mobile phone without burning too much battery or taxing the CPU to the point it starts grinding down.

That alone has put them high up on the consumer charts with their Android browser.

Hiring from Adobe, for the Flash multimedia experience, and expertise and from Akamai, for the obvious talent in delivering movie magic through networks and devices, shows us that Skyfire intends to continue their trend of delivering stunning multimedia to handsets.

Looks like they’re still waiting on approval for the iPhone version of their app, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be too long before it’s also wowing audiences.
