Adsense for Feeds: Feedburner With a Twitter Twist

Google is rolling out an experimental interface for Feedburner – socializing it through Twitter. What has always been about managing, monetizing and measuring syndicated contents, Feedburner now incorporates Twitter allowing you to direct your feeds “in real time to a number of endpoints”.

In addition to aggregators, search engines and other myriad feed readers that had previously been part of Feedburner, the interface with Twitter also provides analytics for your feed as it is distributed across social media. Through this, monetizing your content becomes easier and wiser as you are given better and a lot more informative inputs for your decisions.

When using the FeedBurner Socialize service, you can for the first time get stats on how much traffic your feed items are receiving from Twitter. It is also possible to use with feed reading platforms like Google Reader in one place, all these within seconds from content posting.

Subscribers and reach numbers are still calculated based on daily requests; however, item statistics will reflect the traffic being received in real time.
Results can be seen right away when you take a look at the Twitter account in which you are sending your updates and then select the FeedBurner status blog which will appear at http://twitter.com/feedburner. The easiest way to experience these real time features is to create and publish a new post then switch to the “Last two hours” view to begin seeing updates. For the moment, Feedburner truncates long feeds to 140 characters so it is best to keep that in mind before trying it out.

Last year, Microsoft Bing was quick to incorporate Twitter to its search engine which has shown them a rather good success.  The search engines must eventually succumb to Twitter as a resource, it seems.  Twitter has, in fact, become quite a relevant tool for metrics, as they lean more towards real-time and portable databases.  The incorporation of these analytics trends into the business world is already taking place, as we see with Lexmark‘s printer apps and developer tools.
