BitDefender Launches Safego Beta App on Facebook
Bitdefender, an anti-virus provider, launched Safego today. It serves as a Facebook application that’s designed to warn users of security and privacy threats brought about by malicious wall posts, messages and links.
There has been a lot of malware attacks on social networks, not only from user’s private messages but also their profiles, opening questions of privacy and personal information spills. Safego notifies users of information visible to strangers, scanning individual account thoroughly from inbox, to wall post, videos and links. Just use the “scan now” button.
While Safego is such a hero, it is still up to the user to heed the warning Safego and prevent them from clicking weird links that will initiate an attack.
BitDefender launches the beta in Facebook but will eventually expand to other social networking websites. It’s part of a rising group of third party services out to protect user privacy specifically on Facebook. The social network has faced a recent increase of scrutiny since it was discovered that some of its third party apps were leaking user data. Facebook has since announced plans for more encryption on its site, though there’s still room for a market of security tools to close Facebook’s gaps.
