Facebook Exec Mike Murphy Leaving Social Networking Giant
Mike Murphy, VP of global sales at Facebook has made a departure from the social-networking giant public, with words truly worthy of a rock star (and online ad sales veteran) declaring that countless nights on the road are no longer for him. They don’t leave enough time for his personal life. AllThingsD gets the scoop:
“Murphy said he had been planning his departure for a while, and wanted to get through the most recent quarter to finally pull the trigger…Fischer [David Fischer, VP of Advertising and Global Operations] said that there are no precise plans to replace Murphy yet, but that Facebook would “evaluate a lot of options.”
The ex-Yahoo! Western region VP of Media Sale has joined Facebook almost 5 years ago when Facebook was still in its diapers, but after years-long social-networking explosion, Murphy’s planned departure from his position in favor of the family does not come as a surprise. He was scheduled to leave Facebook at the end of the last quarter, but reflecting over the accelerating evolution of social-networking online marketing in the past few years, he said he did expect to return to the arena after reloading in the company of his family.
Taking into consideration Murphy’s enormous contribution to social networking nobody would disagree it’s time for a break, but as every workaholic knows, there’s only a limited amount of time a pro can spend reloading.
