Google’s $5M Lead for Journalists in Need

Just today, Google has announced to give donation of $5 million to not profit journalism. The company wants to develop a new approach for journalism in today’s world of high technology. Google has a lot of initiatives for bringing free resources to the web, like book scanning and search, cataloging, etc.

A total of $5 million worth donation has been announced, out of which $2 million will be given to the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. This money will be used to fund the night News Challenge. Rest of $3 million will be used for other international projects.

In other Google news, the company is appealing to other areas of study.  It’s Education App has reached a major milestone, and its influence in the cloud continues to grow as it partners with VMware.  Google’s also making a competition of the startup spirit, launching a web app that spotlights developer apps in weekly competitions.

Other givers have included a number of social networking rulers, like Facebook.  The sFund launched last week, opening the doors of opportunity to developers looking to become the next geekstar.  The noble gesture also represents a high-level partnership amongst leaders in the industry.
