Browser Market Update- Microsoft IE9, Chrome Win Big
A recent web browser market update informs the increasing popularity of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Google Chrome for the month of October. Microsoft launched the IE9 Beta version on 15th September, 2010 and since then it has been downloaded over 10 million times. Such an incredible number! On the other hand, Google Chrome is also making significant growth with a rate of 8.47 percent.
The percentage of web market share of each of the browsers 59.26 percent for Microsoft IE, 22.82 for Mozilla Firefox and 8.47 for Google Chrome. While there is growth in number of users of IE9 Beta and IE8, the popularity of IE7 & IE6 has relatively decreased.
“As we have said many times before, we remain committed to getting customers onto a modern browser. We’re pleased IE6 and IE7 usage share continues to drop (by 0.85 percent in October); it’s an indication that customers recognize the benefits they can realize when using a modern browser,” Microsoft said in a blog post.
Google Chrome saw a growth rate of 7.98 percent in September and jumped to 8.47 percent in October. On the contrary, Firefox slightly lost its share from 22.96 percent to 22.82 percent. Safari experienced a slight gain from 5.27 percent to 5.33 percent.
Undoubtedly, the popularity of some web browsers is increasing due to more advanced featured added to them. As of now, the war is going among themselves, but the real battle is still remaining as the mobile web browsers are also expanding their footprints.
