Fortinet’s Shares Drop after Denying IBM Acquisition

After Fortinet disclaimed the possible acquisition of IMB on them, the shares started to drop with 23%. The rumor stated by Bloomberg News on Friday triggered this chain reaction. The suspicion was charged with the speculations over IBM’s intention to develop the security feature of their products. Moreover, the IBM’s spokesperson refused to comment the news.

During the last months, on the security sector there have been some corporate fusions. For example, Hewlett Packard and ArcSight Inc.  shook hands in September, while Intel  integrated McAfee Inc. in August this year.

In an evenly developing high interest for cloud computing networks, mobile devices and remote data accessed via smartphones and tablets , the companies’ drive for enhancement of the security is evident.

After a tertiary party, represented by William Blair & Co. declared on Monday that Fortinet is seen as an effective possible acquisition for IBM because of the former’s capabilities and rapid development it followed the repugnance of the Fortinet’s assignees.

For Fortinet is not bad the general recognition of the company’s resources and influence in the security sector, but the dropping off of the shares, after recently reaching a paramount by being traded with $36.77, reports the Wall Street Journal.

IBM has been making a number of acquisitions lately, showed strong numbers for Q3 and recently garnered $10 billion for a stock buyback.
