Tribune’s Digital Restructure is Unluckily for Top Execs
The boundary-breaking digital and social media boom is an entire industry to reckon with for all publishers, including the Tribune. This is exactly what they did, as two weeks after the not very convenient resignation of former CEO Randy Michaels to say the least the company has released a staff memo stating Tribune Interactive is now Tribune Digital.
This, along with the elimination of numerous positions and the departure of 9 executives, highlights that the web is not something a publisher can afford to ignore, as the same is true for some unfortunate employees.
“In a staff memo (via Romenesko), the company said it Tribune Interactive is now Tribune Digital. Several positions are being eliminated and nine execs are leaving the company, including Marc Chase, who was president of Tribune Interactive since April 2008.”
The Tribune is not in a very good position right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only one who had to do some serious changes and restructuring. The printed word is no longer what it was 30 years ago, as News Corp. and Conde Nast are also amidst the massive publishing change the internet and technology carry with them.
Conde Nast has been open to discuss the changing responsibility of ad management from its Digital division to its magazines’ print teams, as the efforts to effectively reach the online reader are getting more intense and unified with every step taken. News Corp has also adopted not too long ago, as it reported of 105,000 paying online subscribers as well as a somewhat foretelling decrease in print sales.
