Smartphone OS Market Share Still High and Mighty
A new research update made by comScore MobiLens was published today presenting the changes that took place since June until September on the mobile market, in terms of top mobile OEMs, smartphones and mobile content usage.
Samsung is the leading manufacturer of OEM mobile – maintaining its position over LG and Motorola. On this though market Samsung had the greatest increase, with 0.7 points change. Insignificant move for LG, who lost only 0.1 points, while Motorola experienced a bad 2.1 point decrease.
On the smartphone market the shares remain constant, with RIM leading over Apple and Google. The most meaningful increase is attributed to Google, who grew with 6.5 points during the latest three month survey.
Regarding the content used via mobiles, the leading trio remains unchanged: text messaging – 67%, browser use – 35.1% and 33.1%. To be mentioned are the increase of used apps with 2.5 points and social networking with 1.8 points increase.
To sum up the relevant data gathered by comScore, the public’s attention is focused on the OS used on smartphones – it is the research area that experienced the most competitive challenges.
But what does it all mean? The comScore report demonstrates the remaining opportunities around smartphones. We’ve seen a great deal of data swirling around tablets, particularly the iPad. They’ve influenced netbook sales, driven the mobile market into a frenzy, and seemingly restored Apple to trendsetter status. But the mobile smartphone market is still stabalizing, and we’re sure to see a number of integrated tablet points and features with the future of the market at large.
