Twitter Gets Pinged with iTunes Music
A lot of people out there are guilty of typing the lyrics of whatever they’re listening to into their Twitter stream—almost like they want to sing along to their thousands of followers—other services even allow them to post the current song playing on their desktop streaming media player. Now Ping, the Apple iTunes’s music social networking service, is joining those elite ranks. According to Twitter, linking Ping to a Twitter account can allow people to share their discoveries, song previews, and purchases with their adoring fans,
How does it work?
On Ping you can easily link to your Twitter account to instantly find Ping users among the people you already follow on Twitter.Once you’ve linked the accounts, whenever you Post, Like, Review, or tell your friends why you purchased a song or album on Ping, this activity will also be tweeted to your Twitter followers – complete with playable song previews and links to purchase and download music from iTunes.
It’s surprising that Ping didn’t get on this one earlier, especially with LastFM and other music streaming services already putting listened-to-tunes onto Twitter. There’s a lot of good music out there, and with the ability to preview what their friends are listening to just by poking into their Twitter stream, many bands will find a whole new audience.
For Apple’s sake, hopefully the Twitter integration will go better than when they initially launched Ping + Facebook and the two services didn’t quite agree with each other.
