Give Thanks Through Tweets: Tweetsgiving is Back!
During the Thanksgiving holiday, there’s plenty of gratitude and cheer to go around. EpicThanks, a non-profit organization is helping to raise money through Twitter for charitable causes. 2010 is going to be their second year running their Tweetsgiving campaign, after a successful event last year, which led to the building of two classrooms and a library in Tanzania.
Epic Thanks was founded 2 years ago; the organization is led by 6 open-minded people, with different backgrounds. The idea of their Thanksgiving-related event on social media was first thought-up and executed in about a weeks time, making its successful run even that much more miraculous (this is the stuff of movies, people).
What is more remarkable are the outcomes: receiving gracious donations from thousands of Twitter users, the Tweetsgiving team succeeded in building a small learning center in Tanzania. The local support was offered by change-maker Mama Lucy Kamptoni, who implemented the scholar system in which she was taught.
The focus of the story is leading towards the influence of the social media of covering worldwide populations with its charitable message. The Thanksgiving ceremony is expected this year to expand, giving the media coverage of the topic. It’s become quite common these days to utilize and leverage social media for charitable purposes, and we’re glad to be a part of it again this year.
