Skype Stabilizes from Downtime, 10M Back Online

So there has been a significant increase of people back on their Skype chat over the last hour. Though the exact figure cannot be determined, estimates from Skype are said to be over 10 million.  However, everything’s not fully operational yet since there are several features that are malfunctioning. From Skype’s official blog:

“In the last hour, we’ve seen evidence of a significant increase in the number of people online. Because of the way the Skype software works, it’s not possible for anyone to obtain an exact figure, but we now estimate it to be over 10 million.

Please note that some features may not work as reliably as expected – peoples’ online status may be slow to update, and instant messages might not be delivered as quickly as they are normally. Group video calling will take longer to return to norm.”

The downtime, which lasted for a day, was triggered by compatibility issues causing a great number of supernodes to be interpreted as offline. Skype engineers were on a race building mega-supernodes to get Skype back to operation. Hopefully, they can deliver their services reliably once more over the next few hours.
