Fuugo To Offer User-Centric TV and Video Consumption

Announced at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show 2011, an addition to Axel Technologies’ Fuugo offerings is the first ever TV and video application that personalizes video content from the internet mobile and broadcast TV. Its in-depth integration with social media gives customers access to the most relevant video entertainment, as well as all kinds of content, be it streaming video, Internet TV, mobile TV, broadcast TV and locally stored videos.

“Today’s consumers are overwhelmed with TV and Video content choices, from many different sources, requiring multiple applications on each and every portable device” stated Petri Kalske, CEO of Axel Technologies. “With the introduction of Fuugo, mobile consumers now have an intuitive TV application that discover and seamlessly display video content from broadcast, Internet and local storage. With the addition of social networking recommendations, Fuugo viewers will always find something good to watch.”

The application allows users to watch live, on-demand videos as well as video podcasts without ever leaving the app. Users can browse related programs across all sources, and then share their recommendations to Twitter and Facebook friends. A feature like this answers the major problem of consumers’ difficulty in finding interesting and relevant content due to the massive amount of online video content available today. Moreover, the tight integration of Fuugo into social media and different video sources locates the choices of a consumer’s friends, making it a pioneer in interactive TV and video experience. Just recently, one of Fuugu’s user-centric designs was given a prestigious award.

“The goal of the TV Innovation Awards is to recognize the most forward-thinking companies who are creating products and services that are driving the new TV paradigm,” according to Ian Weightman, President IMS Research. “With more than 140 entries received for this year’s awards, competition has been intense. Fuugo stood out in the Mobile TV category because of its commercial potential, level of innovation, and likelihood of consumer adoption as assessed by an independent awards panel.”

Fuugo’s design supports major international mobile and over-the-air broadcast TV standards from North American ATSC and ATSC-M/H, through European DVB-T and DVB-H to Latin American SBTVD-T/One-seg. Aside from an exceptional user experience it provides on all mobile and portable devices; tablets, netbooks, laptops, smartphones, navigation and personal media players, it has also been recently optimized to excellently work with touch screens.

The app is now available on Windows, OSX, Linux, Android and iOS operating systems. Symbian and Meego support will be added early next year while broadcast TV version will ship in the first quarter, followed by new online version on select devices in the quarter that follows.  There’s some big trends emerging for online TV at CES this year: check out our highlights here.
