Menuism Feeds the Hungry in North America
Foodie social network Menuism announced in a press release its Feeding Hunger campaign in conjunction with the San Francisco Food Bank. Menuism will donate $1 to the San Francisco Food Bank for every new Facebook fan added to its list until February 28th, and the San Francisco Food Bank will provide $6 worth of food to the hungry.
“The San Francisco Food Bank provides food to approximately 197,000 people with a two-pronged approach: direct-to-consumer neighborhood food pantries, and in partnership with the more than 400 nonprofit agencies that help deliver food to those in need.”
Aside from promoting and supporting very charitable causes, Menuism’s Feeding Hunger campaign demonstrates a very strong point about social-networking. The social-network and now also an educational blog for foodies chose the San Francisco Food Bank because of its effectiveness in distributing nutritional food – for every $10 donated to the nonprofit organization it will provide 30 meals worth of food.
Menuism features dishes and menus from more than 300,000 restaurants in the US and Canada, and reaches over 2 million diners per month. The social networking start-up has grown significantly ever since its foundation in 2006, and is giving back to the community by aligning virtual and physical goods – a growing trend throughout the web.
