VMware Sees Growing Healthcare Adoption of the Cloud

VMware’s out to tackle every market in the cloud, and one tough battle ground right now is the healthcare industry.  With sensitive data, time-managed accounts and empathetic security concerns, this industry has been a big one to crack, with many cloud services seeking effective means of addressing the widening sea of client needs.

Making its claim in the healthcare industry a bit bigger, VMware reports accelerated adoption of the cloud and virtualized desktops by healthcare organizations. This increase in growth is aligned with increase in the cloud’s appeal to the healthcare industry as more needs and security demands are being met, as well as growing support from the government.

Their released statement emphasizes the use of one product in particular, VMware View, by these organizations.

“Incentives offered by the United States federal government from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) along with the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) act have resulted in a surge of new [Electronic Health Records] EMR, computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and overall IT modernization”

The entities aVMware listed as part of the growing healthcare cloud trend include case studies from the New York Columbia Memorial Hospital, the Washington-based Overlake Hospital Medical Center and the Ohio McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital. Stretching beyond just healthcare, VMware also exhibited joint DataCore customer case studies at the New England VMware User Group meeting, and earlier acquired network security vendor NeoAccel for an undisclosed amount.
