Prioritize Tweets with My6sense Chrome Extension

The blessing and the curse of web content (especially social web content) is the sheer mass of it all.  When YouTube first gained popularity, we quickly realized that, as freeing as a video network with embeddable widgets is, it’s also created a “dog pile” of content that requires patience, skill, and sometimes a strong stomach just to sift through.

In many ways, Twitter’s headed in the same direction, with loads of tweets being pushed through its system.  Even in my own network, which I’ve been wanting to clean up for some time now, I get thousands of irrelevant tweets coming my way.  Every second of the day.

Our good friend Louis Gray has a solution to the problem, with the launch of my6sense.  It’s a Chrome extension that filters through your muddled tweets, turning it into something more usable, and in line with your needs.  The blogger-turned-VP of marketing at My6sense emphasizes the personalization this tool offers, using “intuition” as its secret formula.

Funny he should mention intuition, as My6sense also takes patience as an ally.  While you can utilize this service without having to do a whole lot of prep work up front, it does continually build up your personal preference model by constructing a graph of your interests, which can only be done viably over time.

Cutting down the noise of your social streams is a mighty cross to bear, but My6sense is taking a differentiated approach that combines your interaction, along with data from other users’ activity, to prioritize your Twitter experience.

The mobile functionality of My6sense is of great interest to me, because there are few tools that carry your Twitter web experience into the mobile realm.  Seeing as Twitter is such a mobile tool, I’m always anxious to try out applications that reiterate the fluid nature of its open forums.  What’s more, my6sense incorporates Facebook, Google Buzz and other content into its free mobile app, giving you a glance at the wider scope of your social activity, centralizing it in many regards.

My6sense’s non-intrusive manner of approaching a widespread user base is telling of its business development plans, streamlining efforts around big data management for individualized purposes.  Expounding on the Twitter experience is something many have tackled, so keeping a simplistic interface is key for my6sense moving forward. Search and analysis are other areas to build out on as well.  Curation is a tricky process to replicate, especially on a large scale, and this app represents a challenge that consumers will demand solutions for, because content is only going to grow from here.
