Intel Invests $26M in Mobile Cloud

The latest addition of Intel’s massive recent investments spree is a $26 million investment in the mobile cloud, specifically in 6 international companies stretching from Beijing to Menlo Park, California. Among these companies is open-source video platform provider Kaltura and InVisage Technologies, who offers a quantum dot-based material essentially replacing the silicon (but not the angle) in light sensors.

“The new deals total approximately $26 million and include open source mobile software solutions company Borqs; location-based mapping platform and tools provider CloudMade; QuantumFilm™-based image sensor vendor InVisage; open source online video platform Kaltura; online authentication provider SecureKey Technologies; and unified communications and collaboration service software provider VisionOSS Solution.”

The companies above represent a part of Intel’s efforts to regain its days of glory via massive investments, most notably the fresh acquisition of McAfee for $7.8 billion aimed to expand Intel’s mobile security market share.

Inetl obviously set its eye on the cloud, and the company’s $26 million investment reflects that. It provides the latest investment in the cloud space, with other large industry companies following suite.  Juniper Networks recently put in on Violin’s $35 million Series B funding round, while Cloud VOD provider Voddler raised $8 million raised in funding online video.
