CBS Content Now on Netflix

CBS announced last Tuesday that it will bring some of its most popular programs to Netflix as inked in a non-exclusive two-year contract. By non-exclusive, it means other video-on-demand streaming services aren’t hopeless in having CBS programs on their service as well. The broadcast network has always been cagey of their content, and refused to distribute outside their network, but they opened up this time (thank God).

April marks the spring of CBS programs on Netflix. Current popular content programs such as Medium and Flashpoint, as well as the CBS classics including Family Ties,Cheers and Star Trek will be the front liners, and the new contents will pose no additional charge to Netflix users. This partnership hails Netflix as the only online entertainment service to have the content of 4 major broadcast networks, followed by Hulu who has Fox, NBC and ABC.

Netflix has to deliver more exclusive contents to keep its viewers. Yesterday, it got ‘jabbed‘ by Amazon Prime when the giant ousted Netflix Watch Instantly’s $95 annual subscription with a free service! Crafty, isn’t it? Amazon Prime members can avail of over 5,000 movies and televisions at absolutely no cost at all, and this array of movies is compatible with over 200 models of internet-enabled devices.

Amazon’s not the only old flame on the rise trying to sink Netflix, there’s Redbox too. Much of the details were not revealed yet, but they were reported to be stepping into the competition. Hulu is also one of Netflix’s closest competitors as well, having able to penetrate Android, however it’s also losing traction a bit. Boxee seem to be struggling as well.
