HP Lands New Storage Client, Builds Up Cloud Services

Hardware and aspiring software giant Hewlett-Packard broke the news that it has landed a major storage customer, a company which apparently benefited quite a bit from the transition, according to an official release.

The new client is Knight Frank LLP, among the world’s largest privately owned global property agency and consultancy. The London-based company has replaced its servers and storage systems with a virtualized HP SAN and HP BladeSystem. The transit reportedly resulted in a capacity increase of 200 percent, as well as a whopping 90 percent decrease in total cost of ownership.

The company tripled its data storage capacity and boosted server utilization sevenfold by consolidating the virtualized server environment across its multiple sites.”

Additionally, it seems this deployment of HP’s offerings also had a more green benefit: King Frank cut CO2 emissions by 47 percent.

Knight Frank’s two datacenters feature the HP StorageWorks P4000 SAN for data recovery purposes, and an HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure with HP ProLiant BL495c servers datacenter to power the company’s VMware virtualized environment . The agency has 209 offices worldwide, and represents a significant leap for Hewlett-Packard.

HP is perhaps one of the most notable companies to watch in the tech space right now, considering it’s going through a transformation with an eventual goal of establishing a foothold in the software and cloud segments. Storage remains a very strong focus for the veteran company, which has struck a deal with yet another major company recently.

New York-based full-service securities firm Samuel A. Ramirez & Co. has chosen to deploy HP 3PAR Utility Storage in order to increase customer responsiveness and reduce overall costs. When it comes to storage, Hewlett-Packard invested in more than just increasing its customer base –research is also one of the company’s main focuses. It even took “Memristors” a step forward recently recently, a technology which has the potential to revolutionize computing.
