VMware on A Shopping’s Spree, Buys SocialCast

Bringing together Microsoft SharePoint, Outlook, a microblogging tool and a discussion forum in one collaborative platform is no easy task. But VMware proves that they are continuously dedicating efforts to improve enterprise collaboration with the acquisition of SocialCast. This application makes it easy for workers to find, save and share information. VMware offers SocialCast to enterprises as private cloud operation or as on-premise product built on a VMware virtual appliance. This move is a stride going the social networking direction.

VMware’s chief technology officer, Steve Herrod, explains the inspiration behind this acquisition saying, “communication is increasingly iterative, with fine-grained interaction replacing letter-like back-and-forth. Such communication often happens across dispersed groups of informally linked people, he said.

“Information created in such collaborations should only interrupt users at the right time and should be safely stored and searchable. In summary, there is an opportunity for improved collaboration across a company that can drive new levels of productivity and employee satisfaction.”

Tightly associated with EMC, VMware has been one of the formidable industry leaders. Their influence is staggering; they just beat giant Google for prized Silicon Valley office space, which experts view as a sign of significant growth. Yes, VMware is moving up and into a bigger and chic office. The company has just launched VMware Fusion 3.1.3 dedicated for Mac users. Vmware was also tapped by NYSE to offer an infrastructure-as-a-service application with financial services customers as their prime targets. This partnership will enable financial institutions to access services through a data center with the aid of cloud computing.

Indeed, VMware is on a roll. It has survived the threat of market downdraft, together with EMC. Along the lines of growth and success are unprecedented changes and revamps on people, policies and business strategies.
