wi-GO: A Kinect Hack for the Disabled
The majority of hacks that we have seen for the Kinect usually are of the fun, variety. But this newest one from Luis Carlos Inácio de Matos goes beyond that, and looks to help disabled people with those daily tasks that we take for granted.
Called wi-GO, the project helps disabled people by make such things a going grocery shopping easier by connecting a cart containing a basket and a laptop with a Kinect attached to it. So rather than having to not only push yourself along as well as your shopping cart, the wi-GO follows along behind you as you go around the store.
wi-GO is a project that seeks to unite the technological knowledge and liability in the construction of a common path toward integration and improved quality of life. With the aim of building a barrier-free society, the project wi-GO is a robot system based on sensor technology Kinect that enables the disabled person, but also the elderly and pregnant women, among others, carry objects without difficulty, comfortably and safely. It promotes the mobility of people with physical disabilities, ensuring integration and quality of life.
