Internet traffic will quadruple by 2015. Where that traffic will come from is the focus of an infographic that Cisco posted last week.
According to Cisco, Asia-Pacific is forecast to lead in file-sharing traffic and Internet gaming traffic.
North America will lead in terms of business IP traffic. Western Europe will lead in VoIP usage.
North Americans will also watch a lot of Internet TV, far more thanWestern Europe and the rest of the world.
Services Angle
Organizations now get virtualization. They need it to keep up with the petabytes of data that regularly flows through any application. If you don’t get the storage right, performance becomes a headache.
The network is next.
Smartphones, tablets and a host of sensor networks are bringing new complexities to the enterprise.
Managing virtual loads across the network, understanding the security of the data fabric and building an infrastructure that connects people any time, anywhere – that’s the challenge for the new services professional.
Vince Conroy is chief technology officer at FusionStorm, a managed services provider that is moving into cloud services. He sums up well the trends in the market as virtualization becomes an enterprise necessity and companies begin to build out its infrastructure.
