Samsung Bangs On in India as Apple Shuts Down Europe Tablet Launch
Although Apple hindered the Australian release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, that didn’t stop Samsung from exploring other options as it officially launched the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in India. Stating that a German court order to temporarily bar its flagship Galaxy tablet in the European Union, which includes all European countries except the Netherlands, would not affect its launch plans in other countries, they are set to challenge the decision.
“We will be doing our best in order to protect our intellectual properties,” Younghee Lee, senior vice president of global marketing at Samsung’s mobile business, told Reuters in an interview in New Delhi as Samsung prepared to launch its main tablet computer in the country.
They hyped the tablet launch with the Mobiler contest for bloggers, awarding contestants with one of twenty Samsung Galaxy Tabs and the chance to become the Official Samsung Mobiler. The mechanics of the contest is that you have to get as many people as you can to watch the live webcast of the launch by using the Samsung widget on their blogs. The contest will be followed by a blogger meet on the 20th of August.
Aside from the tablet launch, the company also extended the free 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service to its Indian consumers who have bought its Internet enabled, SMART TVs. 3D VOD has 30 3D clips that includes children classics such as Pinocchio and the Ugly Duckling, lifestyle videos such as the Mercedes Benz Classic Collection and Takeoff-Macau, and IMAX documentaries like the Grand Canyon Adventure. These can be accessed after downloading the ‘Explore 3D’ application from Samsung Apps.
“Samsung has explored a number ways to allow consumers to enjoy 3D content at the touch of a button. This is why we have launched the 3D VOD service. In order to better meet the needs of our discerning consumers, we will continue to expand content provided through 3D VOD service. This serves to reinforce our commitment to our consumers, and by raising the bar, strengthens our global leadership in TV technology and competitiveness,” according to Raj Kumar Rishi, VP-AV Business, Samsung India, reported India Infoline.
And to top things off, tomorrow, August 11, the Samsung Innovation Quotient Finale will take place in New Delhi, India. The event comprised of three parts. The first round is the hunt to identify individuals who have set new benchmarks and brought a lot of credence to their work and business with innovations benefitting society. They received over 300 entries explaining views and ideas of innovators and social entrepreneurs from various parts of the country. The second round involved a preliminary discussion between the qualifiers and mentors & visual experts, such as Sandeep Farias, Founder and Managing Director at Elevar Equity;Dave Wallack, Senior CEO, IFMR Ventures; Suresh Venkat, Editor (Technologies & Special Features), CNBC-TV18; Krishan Sree Kumar, CEO Intellecap and Dipesh Shah, Vice President, Samsung India, who provided inputs and insights on their innovation. The Top Five finalist were chosen that includes K. Chandrasekhar (Innovation – 3nethra) and others. In the final round, contestants will present their work of innovation to a panel of jurors. The top 3 winners will receive cash prizes, trophies and certificates of recognition.
It looks like Samsung’s choice to broaden its reach beyond US soil might actually pay off. The great thing about Samsung’s India launch is that it’s consumer-focused, and invites the consumers take part in their launch.
