Taptera Lands $2M As Mobile Enterprise Gains Popularity

Taptera, the mobile enterprise apps maker for Apple iPads and iPhones, has just taken in $2 million in a Series A funding round led by Terence Garnett, a notable Silicon Valley investor, who will soon be a part of Taptera’s board of directors.  Other participants are from salesforce.com, a roster of top CEOs, and other prominent Silicon Valley investors, including M.R. Rangaswami.

The funding will be used to develop a revolutionary portfolio of Apple iPad and iPhone apps that will profoundly advance processes for sales, operations, collaboration and creativity.  The first app, Colleagues, which will be unveiled later this year, is a powerful mobile employee directory.

“As an enterprise investor, I’ve witnessed an explosive transformation with the rapidly growing adoption of Apple’s iPhone and iPad platforms in the corporate market,” said Terence Garnett.

“Given the proven track record of Taptera’s leadership team in building enterprise Apple applications during their time at Genentech and in partnership with salesforce.com, they are poised to influence and advance the multibillion dollar Apple-centric mobile enterprise application industry.”

The Taptera Team includes cofounder and CEO Chris O’Connor, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Dan McCall who both came from Genentech, Chief Design Officer John Ellenich and Chief Technology Officer Mike Janson.  All of them have the same goal to create revolutionary mobile products that employees would love.

According to Evans Data Corp.’s Mobile Development Survey, three-fourths of enterprise devs are working on mobile apps for customers, enterprise users and to extend mobile access to legacy apps.

“Extending enterprise applications to mobile devices is increasingly becoming a priority for organizations optimizing their workforce,” said Janel Garvin CEO Evans Data Corp.

And we’re seeing new platforms and services cropping up to appease the growing appetite of the mobile enterprise market.  StarCite Inc., a global leader in meeting management, meetings procurement and online event registration management, launched a mobile application called Mobile NSO for national and global hotel sales organizations.

AT&T also announced that it is offering a managed version of its Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP), which enables enterprises to offer applications across a range of devices, including PCs, smartphones and tablets.

Also on the telecommunications end, Damaka, a technology pioneer in Mobile Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC), announced the launch of Xvio, a unique mobile video conferencing software client for iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones.

The mobile enterprise sector is getting much attention as more and more companies are allowing the use of mobile devices in the workplace and app creators are working hard to meet the demands to apps that are vital or at least useful in running a business.
