DataDirect Networks Unveils Major WOS Upgrades
Big data-focused storage solutions provide DataDirect Networks announced the newest version of its Web Object Scaler, which features big performance improvements and data protection enhancements.
“As more organizations move toward cloud paradigms, there is an exponential business need to globally ingest, store, process, replicate and retrieve hundreds of millions or billions of objects per hour in real time,” said Alex Bouzari, CEO and cofounder, DataDirect Networks.
“DDN’s WOS 2.0 is a breakthrough that will help solve the cloud and Big Data challenges faced by Global 2000 organizations across all industries.”
Scalability is the first major highlight of WOS 2.0, which can scale up to 70 percent faster than Amazon S3 and 100 faster than EMC Atmos, according to DDN. The system can support up to 20 petabytes and hundreds of locations, which can be managed from a single endpoint. In addition, asynchronous replication has been added so that WOS can now carry out 55 billion object retrievals per day and 23 billion object writes per day.
Additionally, DDN extended support to other platforms including NFS, Amazon S3, WebDAV and iOS clients. There’s also a multi-tenancy, billing, and support platform built on top of the infrastructure designed for service providers.
Lastly, the final improvement version 2.0 carries is ObjectAssure data protection, which leverages erasure-code protection to optimize storage usage.
The unveiling of WOS 2.0 follows the announcement of the SFA10K-X array, the new and improved SFA10000 array which features the same hardware and paralleled, multi-threaded version of DDN’s SFA OS.
The array supports GRID Scaler, EXAScaler and NASScale, and is built to work in VMware virtualized environments. Additionally, the company hired Erwan Menard as its new chief operating officer. Prior to joining DataDirect, Menard worked at HP, where he served as vice president and general manager for its media unit.
