Android, Search Integration Key to Google TV Revamp
About a year ago Google launched their Smart TV platform, Google TV. This was from the collaboration of Google, Intel, Sony and Logitech. And now, after a year, Google finally launched the much needed update for Google TV.
According to the Google TV official blog, “The Google TV platform contributes to this evolution by enabling new content creators to add to the programming you already enjoy on your TV. Given so much choice, we’re committed to delivering the best way to discover and engage with the high-quality entertainment on your television, whether that comes from your cable or satellite provider (DISH, Comcast, DIRECTV, etc.) or from the Web (YouTube, Netflix, and thousands more).
“The initial version of Google TV wasn’t perfect, but launching it gave us the opportunity to learn. These are still early days, and we’re working hard to move forward with each update.”
So what does the 2.0 update offer?
First, Google finally realized that simple is always better. The update will bring a simpler interface with a customizable home screen that is app-integrated to make browsing and selections easier and faster. It also features an improved search that lets you browse across Live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO and more, but if you just want to focus on movies and TV programs, there’s an app made especially for that purpose. And it now brings a new YouTube experience to Google TV, so you can enjoy hours and hours of video clips from all over the globe.
The 2.0 update will rolling out to Sony devices early next week which will then be followed by update for Logitech.
