Visual.ly Launches DIY Infographics at SXSW 2012

SXSW 2012 lived up to the hype of being a springboard for the coolest technological revelations of the year, and Visual.ly is the latest to jump into the pool. The data visualization expert launches Visual.ly Create—a tool that allows users to build and customize infographics to tell a story.

Co-founder and CEO of Visual.ly, Stew Langille sees a very bright future with the tool and data visualization, saying “we launched Visual.ly because we believe infographics are the future; and now there’s no question that we are right; the demand and rate of production has accelerated more than we could have hoped. This lets anyone play with the power of data visualization, harnessing the best in design from our community.”

He also talked about the launch in the Austin event:

“SXSW always has the best stories — whether it’s an exciting or controversial panel, a hot launch or a new meme — but really seeing how topics explode, who the influencers are, and what piques interest has been hard. Until now. We’re excited to see what people create with the new Visual.ly tools.”

Infographics for Education and Publishing

Too many numbers make me dizzy. Too many facts clutter my mind I tend to forget what I have just read moments ago. I call myself  a “visual” learner—someone who can digest information when it’s presented in a graphic (colorful preferred) way. But even for the geeks, the use of photos and caricatures can reinvent a dull report into an entertaining piece. Presentation still plays a vital role in attracting readers. This is where the rising importance of data visualization as an education and publishing tool becomes evident.

The infographic-made-easy solution will benefit various industries, especially social media. With the significance of getting real-time data to decipher trends, having a visual presentation would definitely make data crunching and analysis a little bit easier and a lot more fun. Twitter data can easily be extracted for a report that reveals famous hashtags or trending topics at a certain hour or day. Create a quick tour of your social life with Facebook by means of an infographic containing vital stats from the month or year.

Visual.ly Create is an extension of its core product, empowering the masses to make their own use of big data.  Since its immersion into public beta in 2011, Visual.ly has assembled one of the world’s largest platforms for data visualization with 11,000 infographics, 4,000 designers and over 2 million monthly visitors. The firm also has a solid line-up of clients they have serviced within the last year. These include The Huffington Post, CNNMoney.com, Showtime, GOOD, Cisco and Smirnoff.

Big Data Visualization

SiliconANGLE is a big fan of big data visualizations and infographics. We have featured a handful of these. Some of the interesting reports include an art piece that demonstrates how music can go beyond man’s auditory senses, the coolness and complexity of big data, why February has the highest divorce rate in the U.S., where to find IT nerd jobs, the science behind big data, what a trillion dollars looks like, and an infographic chronicling how much will it cost a person to die.
