Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition Crosses Three Million Sold Units

The Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition that released on May 9, 2012 on Xbox Live Arcade has sold over three million units. This equals to raising approximately $60 million in just two and a half months, which sounds pretty cool. The news came from Mojang co-founder Markus “Notch” Persson who posted it on his Twitter account, “I got told Minecraft for XBLA passed three million sales today!

Besides Mojang, the official Microsoft blog for Xbox LIVE Arcade, Play XBLA also confirmed the news.

“We’re so excited to announce that Minecraft on the Xbox LIVE Arcade has reached 3 million units sold! Congratulations to everyone at 4J and Mojang!”

Sold at $20 or 1600 MS points, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition gained huge popularity right from its release. Around 400,000 copies were sold in its first day, and around one million units were sold within five days of release. Just last week, the 1.7.3 update for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition went live adding pistons, shears, stackable fences, and several other goodies.

As Minecraft is such a popular video game, how can hackers let go it without any nuisance? Well, of course not. Therefore, the servers of Mojang’s extremely popular social video game Minecraft suffered an exploit that allowed users to log in as anyone they desired. According to sources across the Internet about people attempting the exploit, it involved migrating an account from Minecraft proper to a Mojang account and this accidentally enabled the authentication servers to permit players to login as anyone else As soon as the exploit was announced and it was quickly patched by Mojang and the servers stated working normally.
