Google Talk, Twitter Service Outages Leave Users Outraged
If you experienced difficulty using Google Talk this morning, unable to send messages, call, or access the service all together, you are not alone. A lot of people have reported the same thing happening to them and guess what? Google knows about it.
If you check Google Apps, you can see that Google Talk has a red mark on it, and checking with the legend, it tells you that Google Talk is having a service outage. Google already released a statement regarding the situation, in a way of calming down the angry mob of Google Talk user.
“We’re aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users,,” Google sated. “The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 06:50 PM (ET) detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.”
Google also apologized for the trouble the service outage has caused their patrons and stated that they are doing everything they can to fix the problem.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support,” Google said. “Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better. If you are still experiencing an issue, please contact us via the Google Help Center.”
Irate Google Talk users vented on Twitter, saying things like “If they don’t fix Google Talk soon I might have to use the ‘phone’ to ‘talk’ to a ‘real human.’ WHY WOULD YOU WANT ME TO DO THAT, GOOGLE?” It actually sounds funny, and not at all threatening but for some this is a very serious matter since some people’s business or worklife revolve around Google Talk.
Just as Google restored their Google Talk service, another social media service – Twitter – faced some technical difficulties of its own. No official word from Twitter yet, but if you visit their site, all you may see this message:
“Twitter is currently down for <%= reason %>.
We expect to be back in <%= deadline %>. For more information, check out Twitter Status. Thanks for your patience!”
And if you visit Twitter’s Status page, you’ll see this:
“Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.”
There’s no telling what caused the service outage for these two. Could they have been hacked? Doing some upgrades? Or something just went terribly wrong in their systems? Guess we’ll have to wait until Google finishes their investigation and Twitter is restored. Until then, there’s always Facebook and Skype…
