BMC Software today announced a strategic acquisition, where it acquired VaraLogix, a proven application release automation provider. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, BMC Software has a leading Business Service Management platform, Cloud Management, and the industry’s broadest choice of IT management solutions, and helps customers cut costs, reduce risk and achieve business objectives. Started in 1980, BMC Software was first a mainframe software vendor. However, since mid of 1990s, the company has been developing software to monitor, manage and automate distributed and mainframe systems.

On the other hand, VaraLogix is privately-held and based in Austin, Texas. It is a renowned provider of application release automation solutions, and is led by a team who founded Build Forge, which was acquired by IBM in 2006.

With this acquisition, BMC will extend its leadership in the DevOps space. As organizations continue to struggle with cost and efficiency challenges, when deploying and migrating applications (whether they be across physical, virtual or cloud infrastructures), customers will have the tools to further deploy applications easily and seamlessly, resulting in fewer outages, lower risk and higher return on investment. However, sometimes deploying applications continues to present major challenges, as failed deployments can lead to enormous losses in terms of cost and efficiency.

As VaraLogix is the only solution specifically built to automate business-critical, multi-tier application deployment and configuration management, it will help BMC Software to improve process management for continuous integration and delivery. BMC is quite optimistic about the outcomes of this acquisition and believes that this will help expand its leadership in the DevOps space.
