Nexus 7 hits Google’s homepage

If you looked at Google’s homepage today you might have noticed the Nexus 7 pop up.  A click on the words “The playground is open”   takes you right to the Google Play store where the Nexus 7 is available.

The front page of Google is typically ad-free and famously minimalist in design, so this shows how particularly strong Google feels about moving their new tablet product.

The Nexus 7 is a 7-inch tablet device that is made by Asus and features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.  Mainly competing with the Amazon Kindle Fire and the iPad, the device has been well reviewed and is reported to be gaining traction.  We have covered the Nexus 7 extensively here at Silicon Angle.

We expect that the consumer-friendly focus for Google will continue as the company extends itself into all types of media, devices, and entertainment.  The rare exception to an ad, much less an animated ad, lends credence to that fact.
