LinkedIn Goes After Brands with “Timeline” Design, Mobile Update

Social networking site, LinkedIn, unveiled a new look for Company Pages today, which probably won’t make Facebook too happy.  The revamped LinkedIn company pages resembles Facebook’s Timeline.

Anyway, what does the new LinkedIn offer?

For LinkedIn members, the revised company pages make it easier to find what they are looking for, such as company news and information, career opportunities,  products and services, or even insights.  Company updates are front and center, which enable members to quickly share, like, or comment on company updates.  Plus, the Company Pages are now available on Android smartphones and tablets as well as iOS devices, so you can stay up to date with the latest happening regarding the company you care about.

As for the companies themselves, the update means easier image uploads and stream updates, and it’s now easier to showcase products, services and career opportunities to members visiting their page.

The first few brands to experience the new and improved LinkedIn Company Pages are  Philips, Citi, HP and Dell.  Also, for select companies, such as American Express, Unilever, and Expedia, LinkedIn has offered “a more compelling and visual way for them to showcase their employer brand through the Career Pages section of Company Pages,” as the company believes that “this new look and feel makes it easier for companies to tell their employer story and make the job hunt process more personalized for job seekers.”

This isn’t the only recent update for LinkedIn users.   Earlier this week, Bloomfire, the Austin, Texas-based startup that offers a handy LinkedIn add-on without so much fuss, is now offering a rounded-out content creation platform for LinkedIn Groups that doesn’t require plug-ins or external tools.  Though the change is not made by LinkedIn, it still benefits their users.

“LinkedIn Groups are now even more useful,” said Bloomfire CEO Craig Malloy. “Bloomfire for LinkedIn Groups expands how we communicate in LinkedIn so we can share knowledge by showing instead of just telling or linking to outside content. Once a user switches on Bloomfire for their group, they can create and share original, rich content right inside their LinkedIn Group.”
