Motorola Unveils 3 New “Evolutionary” Smartphones

Nokia isn’t the only one to unveil their new offerings for the mobile market this week.  Motorola Mobility also debuted their new line of smartphones, a major update since being placed under Google’s reign.

Motorola revealed three new smartphones: the Droid Razr M, the Droid Razr HD and the Droid Razr Maxx HD.

The Droid Razr M features an edge-to-edge 4.3-inch, 960×540 display, 8GB of storage, 2000mAh battery, 1.5-GHz, dual-core processor, and runs Android 4.0.4.  The best part is that it will only cost $99.99 with a new two-year contract, and will be available for online purchase next week.

As for the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD, they’re just the pumped up versions of the Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx.  They’re almost the same in every way except that the Razr Maxx HD is thicker at 0.36 inches compared to 0.33 inches for the Razr HD, the Razr HD has 16GB of internal memory and a 2530mAh battery, while the Razr Maxx HD comes with 32GB of memory and a whopping 3300mAh battery.

Aside from those differences, everything else is the same.  They both have the Kevlar casing which gives it an elegant and stylish look, 4.7-inch, 1280-by-720 Super AMOLED HD displays, 1.5-GHz, dual-core processor, Android 4.0.4, 8MP back camera, 1.3MP front camera, microSD card slot, NFC support, and HDMI port.

Just like Nokia, the phones look great but there’s no news yet as to when Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD will be available in stores, or how much the devices will cost.  Verizon might be the exclusive carrier of the two devices, which are expected to come out in time for the holiday season.

Analysts have different takes on what Motorola has to offer.  Some are quite pleased, stating that hardware and engineering as the reason why Google acquired Motorola in the first place but some are quite disappointed.

“It seemed like an evolutionary event rather than revolutionary,” said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at market researcher Gartner Inc.  “You’ve got higher resolution screens, you’ve got better contrast ratios, but you don’t have major features that stand out.”
