Rovio teased Angry Birds fans last week when they tweeted a photo of a hooded figure with a simple “Who could this be? Check back tomorrow for a hint!” teaser.

Soon, it was unveiled that the hooded figure is an Angry Bird holding what appears to be a lightsaber, but is actually a slingshot.  And if you’re a sci-fi fanatic, you’ve probably already guessed this has something to do with Star Wars.

If you thought Angry Birds Space was the best of the series then you’re in for a treat with Angry Birds Star Wars.  Just imagine how Star Wars characters/settings would be incorporated into the world of Angry Birds.

Rovio advised fans to go to Times Square in New York on November 8 at 10AM EST and to Toys ‘R’ Us at 8AM EST, presumably on the same day, where everything will be revealed.  Angry Birds Star Wars is coming to iOS, Android, Mac and PC.  For now, you can watch the teaser here and you can check out their Tumblr account for updates as they’re posting updates daily.

By every definition, Star Wars is an epic fairy tale, from the absence of Luke’s parents as he journeys across space, to the challenges and lessons he faces along the way. Indeed, George Lucas’ film has become a classic example of the fairy tale, embodying the morals of a people with a cultural following that’s sustained generations.

So it’s no surprise that Star Wars has been a running theme for parodies across the ages, even inspiring video games for the mobile age.  And as we anxiously await Angry Birds Star Wars, we look back at some of the best Star Wars parodies to date:

Jimmy Fallon’s Star Wars parody at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards is adored by many.  Fallon plays as Anakin Skywalker who kept raving about his new lava apartment, did a great Black Jack impression and denied his love for The Notebook.

But George Lucas’ favorite parody is Hardware Wars, featuring a battle between a toaster and an iron, where C3PO looks a lot like The Wizard of Oz’s Tin Man.  It was released the same year as the original Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.  It was only 13 minutes long and had the tagline “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll kiss three bucks goodbye,” when it premiered in theaters, but if you never watched the original film, you probably won’t find the parody all that amusing.

However, some gamers claim that LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game is one of the best Star Wars video games ever made, though a lot may disagree, especially when it comes to the graphics.  IGN claims that “what’s so amazing about the original LEGO Star Wars is that it managed to achieve three distinct goals that, at first glance, would seem to be at complete odds with one another. First, it’s a fun action game that pushes all the right gameplay buttons, including killer co-op. Second, it uses the Star Wars license perfectly for its target audience (young ones).”  But hard core gamers prefer Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2, and Star Wars: Battlefront II.

A parody is a form of flattery, and it shows that no matter how long ago the original Star Wars was released, no matter how many episodes may have been released, it still has the same effect on Star Wars fans – they just can’t get enough.
