iPhone Apps and Ideas: Getting ‘Stached for Movember
Once again Movember is here. You know, the month formerly known as November, when people grow their moustaches for the whole month.
Movember is a portmanteau of moustache love and the pending onset of winter. It is a month-long event which started in 1999 when a group of young men from Adelaide, South Australia, decided to grow their moustache for charity. According to the Adelaide-based “Movember Committee,” the idea came to them one night in a pub as they wanted to support the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). In other words, they were “growing whiskers for whiskers.”
There’s another Australian group who promotes Movember for prostate cancer awareness, formed in 2004 known as the Movember Foundation charity.
- First, you need to register at Movember.com, there are several Movember.com sites so register where you want.
- Once registered at movember.com each mo bro, the person growing the ‘stache, must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face.
- For the entire month of November each mo bro must grow and groom a moustache and mo sisters, any female in a mo bro’s life, can help them with the upkeep.
- There is to be no joining of the mo to [one’s] sideburns. (That’s considered a beard.)
- There is to be no joining of the handlebars to [one’s] chin. (That’s considered a goatee.)
- Each mo bro must conduct himself like a true country gentleman.
- Movember ends with a bang, either with mo bros and mo sisters throwing their own parties or they can attend one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.
‘Stache app
Keeping your ‘stache nice and clean may be daunting so to help you grow your glorious handlebars, Movember made an app to help you with your grooming.
Movember Mobile is available on iTunes and Google Play for free, and the app allows mo bros to build and track their campaign on the go. It provides key functionality to assist all aspects of your ‘stache campaign, such as Fundraising Track to manage personal, team and global donations. You can also request donations from your phone, go social with Mo Space, recruit and get new ideas from the 2012 Style Guide.
If you haven’t started growing your moustache yet, you can still join in on the fun by helping other mo bros with their campaigns. And come next year, you’ll have mo bros to support you. And for those who already started growing their ‘stache, happy Movember!
