Pentaho Adds More BI Features to Flagship Product

Pentaho logoData visualization firm Pentaho just debuted Business Analytics 4.8, the latest release of its data integration and analytics platform. The new version features two major enhancements, including an iPad app.

The company says that Pentaho Mobile is a full-featured port for Business Analytics, with interactive dashboards and the “power to create new analysis on the go.”  This is great news for executives that want to get their colleagues up to speed on the latest intel, but it’s only one of the additions that Pentaho is introducing with v4.8. The other one is Instaview – a unified interface for data scientists.

Instaview is a consolidated visualization tool for Hadoop, MongoDB, Cassandra, and HBase. It’s being pegged by the company as a more convenient alternative to the whole arsenal of different tools that are otherwise needed to tap into these different data streams.

Demand for Big Data solutions powered by Hadoop as the data management infrastructure are becoming mainstream,” said Tim Stevens, vice president of corporate strategy and development for Cloudera said in a statement. “Enterprises demand flexible approaches to data exploration that are easy to deploy. As Cloudera sets the standard in the Enterprise for real-time queries based on Hadoop, integrating new technologies such as Instaview with Cloudera Impala brings innovative new value propositions to the world of data exploration that were not previously viable.”

Infrastructure simplicity and real-time analytics are two of the biggest trends in the forefront of big data today, and Pentaho has been stepping up its focus on the former as of late. Two months ago the firm unveiled a fruit of its an alliance with  Cisco: a USC machine architected specifically to run its data integration engine. The latter company’s Unified Computing System line is a family of pre-integrated appliances that ship with every component built in, including compute, storage, networking and the management software that sits on top.
