Ashton a Dead Ringer for Steve Jobs. Remember These Other Techie Film Portrayals?

Earlier this year, news surface that actor Ashton Kutcher would be portraying the late Steve Jobs in a movie about the life of the great innovator.  The movie, titled jOBS, will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on January 17-27, 2013.

jOBS will showcase “the defining 30 years” of Jobs’ life but another film will be released, “Steve Jobs”, which is based on Walter Isaacson’s biography and will be made by Sony Pictures.  No news yet as to when “Steve Jobs” will make its cinematic debut.

As for jOBS, though it’s still a month away from Sundance, we’ll leave you with this eerie side-by-side photo of Jobs and Kutcher tweeted by Lidija Davis.

Speaking of geeky portrayals, do you guys remember Pirates of Silicon Valley?  It was a movie made for TV by Martyn Burke based on the book Fire in the Valley: The Making of The Personal Computer by Paul Freiberger and Michael Swaine.  The movie documented the impact of PC development with rivals Apple and Microsoft.  Jobs was portrayed by Noah Wyle while Bill Gates was played by Anthony Michael Hall.

And who could forget Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network?  A lot of people loved and hated Zuckerberg in the movie, especially when they learned that the Facebook they adore was taken from the Winklevoss Twins and his dispute with co-founder Eduardo Saverin was revealed.

I wonder who will the next tech giant to be portrayed in a movie?  Could it be Instagram’s co-founder Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger?  They could be portrayed by Charlie Day and Nelson Franklin respectively.  Or what if they made a movie about SiliconANGLE Founder and CEO John Furrier?  Who do you think would be best to portray him?  Could it be Dan Aykroyd, Kevin Nealon or Charlie O’Connell?  Or better yet, Tom Cruise?  ;)
