Gifting Apps Returns for iOS 6, Just In Time for Christmas
In today’s mobile news roundup: iOS gift apps, Facebook updates iOS app; Apple found guilty of infringing patents; and Galaxy Note III rumors.
iOS gift apps
If you still haven’t figured out what to get friends and family for Christmas, then maybe you can just give them apps from the Apple App Store. This isn’t actually a new feature for iOS devices, as it made its first appearance on iOS 5 but when iOS 6 came out, the feature disappeared and came back just in time to spread holiday cheer.
All you have to do is go to the App Store on your mobile device, click on a paid app you’d like to gift, click on the Share button to open the options and choose the Gift icon. You then need to enter your Apple ID and password, confirm your payment option, enter the recipient’s e-mail address, set the date when the app will be sent, and you’re all set.
Facebook updates iOS app
Facebook released an update for their iOS app, which features multiple speed upgrades. The app now features photo uploading to specific albums and faster news feed loading. The Timeline has also been tweaked to open faster on your iPhone.
Facebook version 5.3 is now available for download on iTunes or the App Store.
Apple found guilty of infringing patents
A Wilmington, Delaware jury has determined that Apple infringed three patents of Mobile Media Ideas and used it for the iPhone. The patents in question are U.S. Patent 6253075 which covers the “Method and Apparatus for Incoming Call Rejection”, U.S. Patent 6427078 for “Device for personal communication, data collection and data processing… also comprises a camera unit” and U.S. Patent 6070068 which involves “Communication terminal device and method for controlling the connecting state of a call into a desired connection state upon a predetermined operation by a user.”
The jury has yet to determine damages against Apple, and the Cupertino giant has yet to make a comment regarding the jury’s decision.
The patents were previously owned by Nokia and Sony.
Galaxy Note III rumors
According to reports, the next iteration of Samsung’s Galaxy Note will have an OLED screen that would measure 6.3 inches in size. If this is true, the Galaxy Note III’s size will be a huge bump from the 5.5-inch of the Galaxy Note II. No other features had been revealed but the report from Korea Times also stated that the Galaxy S IV will make its debut at the Mobile World Congress in January 2013.
