Linksys Group at Cisco Sold to Belkin

Cisco System dumped their Linksys group in deal with Belkin.  It was announced that Belkin entered into an agreement to acquire Cisco’s Home Networking Business Unit which included Linksys.

Belkin intends to maintain the Linksys brand and will offer support for Linksys products as part of this transaction. All valid warranties will be honored by Belkin for current and future Linksys product.  The deal is expected to close in March.

Linksys was the darling of the 802.11 wifi explosion in the early 2000s.  Cisco bought Linksys for $500 million in 2003.

Cisco is working to regain their leadership in networking by focusing on virtualization and software-led infrastructure such as Software-defined Networking and efforts like VCE and Flexpod with Netapp.
