5 Facebook Apps We Want for Google Glass
This week brought long-awaited specs on Google Glass and its companion Android app, along with API details for developers anxious to build apps for the wearable gadget. Another extension for Android’s open source platform, Google Glass comes with some surprisingly strict limitations on how developers can distribute and monetize apps. But we doubt that will keep app makers from exploring their options. As Google grows its device line up, its mobile OS only grows in influence. Even Facebook’s crafted a dedicated software solution based on Android with Facebook Home.
Indeed, mobile is making friends of Google and Facebook.
“I think it’s fantastic — I love it,” said Eric Schmidt, Google Chairman. “This is what open source is about. Open source is open source. It’s experimentation, it’s creativity… I think it’s one of the main reasons that Android is doing so well right now. And it took some guts to do it.”
This could foster a good working relationship between Google and Facebook, despite the search giant’s own social efforts with Google Plus. And if Facebook’s getting so serious about Android, how could the global social network leverage Google’s upcoming Glass?

Status update
Of course this would be the first feature that Facebookers would look for if ever Facebook manages to submit an app for Google Glass. It would be cool if you could just speak what’s on your mind, and Google Glass posts in on your Facebook wall.
Geotagging
The next most important thing for Facebookers is the ability to tell the whole world where they currently are. This could be an interactive feature, activating specialized Feeds from friends in the area, nearby recommendations and deals.
Sharing photos may be more important to others than sharing location, or the two could go hand in hand, as people love to post photos of a meal their having at a certain posh place. This could also solidify Facebook’s mobile goals, putting Instagram front and center of a revolutionary device app.
Messenger
Facebook Messenger is a core app for Facebook’s mobile distribution, and this is likely one of the earliest functions they’d add to a Google Glass app. Users would be able to simply talk out loud to respond to chats or messages.
Gifts
Wouldn’t it be convenient if Google Glass alerted you of a gift sent by a Facebook friend, along with directions to the nearby store where your gift can be redeemed? Another option is to redeem the gift directly online, which you’ll also be able to do directly through Google Glass, too.
