LIVE: PC Sales Drop 14 Percent, Microsoft’s Surface Strategy Saves…or Did It?
We aren’t going to know for sure if it was in fact the saving grace, but Surface tablets might have saved Microsoft’s Windows division. Here’s the odd part: IDC reported last week that worldwide PC shipments plummeted 14 percent in the first quarter of the year, the steepest decline ever since IDC started watching the PC market in 1994. Contrary to the IDC’s report, Microsoft reported that adjusted revenue for the Windows division recorded a 0 percent change, or was flat compared to the same quarter last year. With the two reports we aren’t comparing apples to apples though, so the verdict is still out on whether Microsoft’s Surface strategy is going to be any kind of a savior.
On today’s Live NewsDesk Show with Kristin Feledy (see live stream below) we’ll be hearing from SiliconANGLE Contributing Editor John Casaretto. Should we be taking this numbers at face value or is there more to read-into here? We’ve been reporting that Surface sales have been dismal, so what’s the argument for the Surface as a savior? As the PC market continues to decline, how does Microsoft address the coming dooms day?
