InnoGames Doubles First Quarter Revenue on Increased Sales of Mobile Game Platform

Despite transitioning from mini web browser games to mobile platform, times are still good for InnoGames. The Harburg based Germany games provider has continued its sustained growth trend in the first half of 2013. InnoGames is one of the world’s leading developers and providers of online games with over 100 million registered players

The company announced that during the first six months of 2013, its sales increased more than 60 percent year-on-year. Currently employing over 250 staff, the company is looking to fill more than 40 positions during next quarter. In addition, by next spring the company plans to move to a new office in the center of Hamburg, which will give it the space for up 500 employees.

“Despite increased competition and harsher market conditions, we’re on course for another record year.” confirms InnoGames Founder and CEO Hendrik Klindworth.

InnoGames managed to sustain its dynamic growth due to the cross-platform approach, with the mobile version of Tribal Wars increasing the franchise’s revenue by 15 percent. It will take the successful Forge of Empires and Grepolis cross-platform in Q3 and Q4 2013 respectively to mobile platforms.

“Cross-Platform is a very important step for us, as it allows player retention as well as an introduction of our established brands to new audiences. We also have two unannounced titles in production, our first games that were developed as cross-platform right from the beginning. At least one of them will be released in 2013.” says Klindworth.

The 60 percent increase in turnover is also due to the more registration of users to its Forge of Empires, Grepolis, and Tribal Wars games. The company managed to rack up more than 10 million registrations in its first year for the game, which is awarded as ‘best browser game’ at this year’s German Computer Games Award.

“But it is not only thanks to Forge of Empires, which has already exceeded our high expectations, but our established games as well. Thanks to an amazingly loyal and dedicated community, Grepolis, The West, and of course Tribal Wars have experienced some of their strongest months ever”, remarks Armin Busen, Chief Financial Officer at InnoGames.

Good Times

The great success for InnoGames is games like Grepolis, Tribal Wars, and The West, which show strong growth recently thanks to very active communities on the net.

Cross-platform gaming is the future of gaming industry. It is technically very complex and challenging to provide the player with a perfect experience in desktop browser as well as on the tablet and the smartphone.

The mobile market is booming and it has benefited InnoGames from the habits of the players on these platforms, where passage through micro transactions is done with more ease. InnoGames sees the ambitious cross-platform approach as one of the main pillars of its growth strategy. Based on the principle of free-to-play, the game Tribal Wars has already made the transition while Forge of Empires will be next on the list.
