Yet More Galaxy Gear Specs Leaked

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Gear, it’s entry in the wearable tech arena, a couple of days before IFA 2013 in Germany.  With only a few days before the launch, more leaks about the rumored device have just surfaced.

Until now, we’ve barely heard much about the Galaxy Gear except that it will be able to perform smartphone tasks such as making phone calls, surfing the web, sending and receiving emails and so on, but it’s not clear whether it will just be a companion device for a Galaxy smartphone or a stand alone device.

But in the last few days, specifications of the device have been leaked.  Various reports stated that the Galaxy Gear will feature a 2.5” display with a 320×320 resolution supporting touch, swipe and select type gestures, but the device is unlikely to have text-input.  In addition, it’s believed that the wearable gizmo will be powered by a Samsung Exynos 4212 dual core 1.5GHz processor with Mali-400 MP4 GPU, plus NFC for bump-to-sync and authenticate, Bluetooth 4.0, a built-in accelerometer as well as other sensors that would allow it to compete with fitness bands.

More recently, new leaks have surfaced that claim that aside from having the specifics mentioned above, the Galaxy Gear will also come with 1GB RAM, storage options of 6GB and 8GB, a 4MP camera with 720p video recording capability, and will run software from Samsung, either Tizen or Bada, rather than Google Android – which means it might only work with Galaxy smartphones.

The 2.5” display with 320×320 resolution is seen as a battery hog, but even so the Galaxy Gear is expected to be able to last up to 10 hours on a single charge, providing there’s an option to turn off the screen when it’s not being used instead of it constantly displaying time and other information.  A sleep button is expected to be present in the watch to make it act like your smartphone, it sleeps when not needed, thus conserving battery life.

As for the actual look of the device, no images have surfaced on the web so far, but there is an abundance of concept designs of the Galaxy Gear.
