Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) Touches Down

In earlier posts, we mentioned that Samsung not only unveiled a smartwatch and a new phablet, but it also unveiled a new version of the Galaxy Note 10.1.

We had a close look at what two devices have to offer, as well as how they compare with similar devices in their respective categories, so now it’s time to see how the Note 10.1 stands up against the competition:

“The new GALAXY Note 10.1 is the most progressive 10-inch tablet, delivering the best viewing and multitasking experiences. It is the most recent demonstration of Samsung Mobile’s focus on constant product innovation to stay aligned with shifting consumer interests,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “The GALAXY Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) unites a range of features that will consistently surprise consumers as they realize how much easier and more enjoyable it makes their everyday lives.”

The new and improved Galaxy Note 10.1 features a 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 X 1600) Super clear LCD, 1.9GHz Octa-core processor for the 3G /WiFi version and 2.3GHz Quad-core processor for the LTE version. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, has an 8MP rear camera with BSI sensor, Auto Focus Camera with LED Flash, Zero Shutter lag, plus a 2MP front camera with BSI sensor. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 & 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, AllShareCast, BT4.0, USB2.0, GPS + GLONASS, while the device also comes with an Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Geo-magnetic, RGB, 3GB RAM, and a choice of 16/32/64GB Internal Memory that can be upgraded with a microSD to up to 64GB, Standard Li-ion 8,220mAh battery, and has dimensions of 243.1 X 171.4 X 7.9mm, weighing 535g for the WiFi Version.

Because of the big screen, the new Galaxy Note is optimized for multitasking.  It features something called the Multi Window which allows users to run separate instances of the same application, and use an enhanced S Pen to drag and drop content from one window to another. It also has a Pen Window that enables users to simply draw a window of any size on the screen, and instantly access unique in-application features such as YouTube or the calculator.

The S Pen has been improved and has the same features found on the S Pen of the Note III such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder.  The S Note has also been upgraded with a more intuitive, easy-to-use interface.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 also comes with enhanced privacy and security as users can activate Samsung KNOX with ease.  This security enhancement makes the new Note 10.1 ideal for BYOD.
