Revolv smart home hub now shipping pre-orders

This week’s SmartHome roundup features the availability of a new smarthome hub, a cool way to control your sprinkler system, and a device that alerts you when to change the air filters.

Revolv Hub

Revolv Inc., announced that it has begun shipping its highly anticipated Smart Home Solution to those who have pre-ordered the device.  The Revolv Smart Home Solution connects with your home WiFi and unifies premium, off-the-shelf smart home automation devices such as the Sonos HiFi wireless speakers, Philips Hue wireless lighting, Yale automated locks, Insteon home control devices, Belkin WeMo and popular automated thermostats. Today, consumers can order the Revolv Hub for $299 directly from Revolv.com or Amazon, and download the free iPhone app.

“We are very excited to be shipping our first allotment of product to our pre-order customers just in time for the holidays,” said Mike Soucie, Co-Founder and Head of Marketing at Revolv. “Over the next couple weeks, we will be working with customers to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and we look forward to hearing from them about their experiences with Revolv.”

Lono Sprinkler Controller

Having a perfect lawn is no easy task.  You either need to have a green thumb, great gardeners, or the perfectly scheduled sprinkler system to ensure your lawn is getting the care it needs.  There are also some areas in the US that experience water shortages, so sprinkler schedules are a must in certain states.

If you need a system to help you monitor and control your sprinklers, then consider the Lono Sprinkler Controller.  With it you can schedule when your sprinklers should turn on, adjust them so that there will be no dry patches, and even delay a schedule if you are going to be using the lawn in the evening, all in a mobile app.

It sounds like a helpful system, but interested parties will have to wait a bit, or help fund the Kickstarter project.

FilterWatch

Remembering to change the filters on your air conditioning and heating unit is nearly impossible without an alert system.  But that doesn’t detract from the importance of clean air filters, as it keeps the air in your home clear, and keeps electricity bills down. Dirty filters make it harder for the cooling or heating system to work properly, consuming more energy.  Most filters have a lifespan of about a month to three months, but it is easy to lose track of time.

FilterWatch is a small device that you attach to your A/C or heater vent.  Once you press the start button, all you have to do is wait for the device to alert you when it’s time to change the air filter.  Though this is still a Kickstarter project, it has already surpassed its $4,000 funding goal with six more days to go.  Those who funded the project can expect their FilterWatch to arrive by January 2013.
